Clear provisions

Today, a distinction is already made in practice between the audit of public companies and economically significant companies on the one hand and the audit of small and medium-sized companies on the other. The new regulation brings clear legal provisions for this distinction.

Size and importance

Now it is no longer the legal form that determines whether a legal entity must have an auditor, but the size and importance of a company. The new provisions on the audit obligation apply to stock corporations, associations and foundations. The audit obligation still does not apply to partnerships.

Ordinary or Limited Audit

A distinction is now made between "ordinary auditing" and "limited auditing". SMEs that do not exceed certain size criteria can benefit from an audit that is more limited in scope than the ordinary audit. This offers small companies the advantage that the effort and costs for the audit are kept within reasonable limits.
